Chamber

Sonatine (2009) for clarinet and piano. Written for Kate Forman Quayle. Premiered July 2009 at New England Music Camp.

Introduction and Fanfare (2009) for clarinet, trumpet and cello. Commissioned by Ashley Sandor Sidon. Premiered in May 2009 on a Drake University Faculty Tour of China.

Variations (2008) for flute, alto saxophone and piano. Commissioned by Collective Set (Iowa City, IA).

Suite for Solo Cello (2007). Premiered by Ashley Sandor Sidon at Gregory Singer Fine Violins, New York, March 2007. 21'.

Contradance (2006) for cello and piano (2006). Written for Jameson Platte.  Premiered by Jameson Platte and Matthew Quayle at Gregory Singer Fine Violins, NY, March 2006. 5’

String Quartet No. 2 (“Sweet Insanity”) (2006). Premiered by The Arditti Quartet, NYU, March 26, 2006. 5’.  Expanded for performance by the Avalon Quartet on the Washington Square Contemporary Music Ensemble series, Merkin Concert Hall, Dec. 2006.

Three Spirits (2006) for piccolo, harp and viola.  Premiered by the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Merkin Concert Hall, New York, April 2006.  5’.

Sun Dance (2005) for two alto saxophones and piano.  Commissioned by Gail Levinsky.  Recorded May 31, 2006 for her upcoming CD.  8’

String Quartet No. 1 (2005).  Mvt. I premiered by the Avalon Quartet, May 2003 at Merkin Concert Hall (NY).  Complete Quartet premiered at Merkin, April 2005 by ICE. 25’.

Trio for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano (2004).  Commissioned by clarinetist Deborah Andrus.  Premiered by the Southeastern Trio at Tulane University, New Orleans, November 17, 2004.  15’.

By a Gray Sea (2004) for marimba/violin.  Written for marimbist Kunihiko Komori.  Premiered with violinist Yonah Zur at NYU, November 2, 2004.   8’.

Fanfare (2003) for 3 trumpets and 1 trombone.  Premiered in August 2004 at New England Music Camp, Sidney, Maine.  Also arranged for clarinet ensemble. 20”.

Symphony for Six (2001).  Written for the contemporary sextet eighth blackbird.  Premiered at the Music 2001 festival (Cincinnati), June 2001.  15’.

Horoscope (2000) for nine instruments.  Commissioned by Claire Chase (flute) and the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE).  Premiered with conductor Tim Weiss, Oberlin, April 2000.  15’.

Toccata (2002) for solo piano.  Premiered by Matthew Quayle, December 2002, NYU.  6’.

Introduction and Theme for the ‘Round Midnight Variations(2001), a set of variations by prominent American composers (including Rzewski, Babbitt, Crumb, Bolcom, Daugherty and Torke, among others) on the Thelonius Monk tune.  Commissioned by pianist Emanuele Arciuli, premiered in Italy in 2002.  New York premiere at the Miller Theater, Nov. 2002.  4’.

Memorial Suite (1999), suite for solo piano in 12 movements.  Premiered by Matthew Quayle, University of Cincinnati, Spring 1999.  20’.

Orchestra

Three Adirondack Scenes (2009) for chamber orchestra (13 instruments). Commissioned by the Albany Symphony Orchestra for the Capital Region Heritage Project, as part of the American Music Festival. Premiered with David Alan Miller, conductor, in the Adirondack Hall of the New York State Museum, Albany, March 15, 2009.

Another Peace Song (2009) for solo trumpet and string orchestra. Commissioned by Steven Dube.

Gridley Paige Road (2007) for string orchestra. Arrangement of the opening movement of my first string quartet. Grand Prize and People's Choice Winner in the 2007 Adagio Composition Contest of the Fauxharmonic Orchestra. Featured on the 2008-09 season of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra; performances in Baltimore and at Bargemusic in New York. (Visit the Fauxharmonic Orchestra's website to hear a recording).

Strange Dream (2004).  Version for small chamber orchestra written for Alarm Will Sound.   Premiered on May 7, 2004 at NYU.  Rewritten for full orchestra in October 2004.  7’.

Concerto for Piano and Orchestra (1998).  Premiered November 1998 by the Oberlin Chamber orchestra, Tim Weiss, conductor, Matthew Quayle, piano (after winning the Oberlin Concerto Competition).  23’.

Chorus

Three Poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins (1997) for treble choir and piano.  Commissioned by the New London Children’s Choir (London, England), premiered 1997.  6’.

Theater/Song

Blues (2001) for female voice and piano. Premiered by Stephanie Youell, 2001.
