Commissioned by the New London Children’s Choir (London, England) under the direction of Ronald Corp. Premiered 1997. 6’. The three songs are as follows:
I. No news in the Times today
II. A Christmas Hymn
III. The Cuckoo's Song
Although these pieces contain many difficult leaps and rhythms, they retain a melodic character. I was impressed with how quickly the New London Children's Choir was able to master this material. The central piece, A Christmas Hymn, could easily be performed on its own; it features an extended treble solo.
