Full suite premiered by Matthew Quayle, New England Music Camp, Maine, August 2003. 7’.
I wrote the middle movement of this suite, Love Song, for my sister’s wedding in October 2002. Having come up with a few other ideas for wedding pieces in the process, I surrounded it by a Prelude and a Finale a few months later. These outer movements both make reference to Mendelssohn’s famous Wedding March. In the second half of the Prelude, Mendelssohn’s harmonies are incorporated into the chord progression. In the showy Finale, the quotation is unmistakable!
I. Prelude
II. Love Song (The Ballad of Cat and Todd)
III. Finale
