Premiered by Matthew Quayle, University of Cincinnati, Spring 1999. 20’.
These twelve movements are a tribute to my childhood piano teacher, Margaret Johnson, who passed away in 1999. As my teacher from age 8 to 17, she was perhaps the most pivotal influence in my musical development. In many ways she was a connection to a lost era of Romantic piano playing; she used to fascinate me with her accounts of hearing Rachmaninoff and Paderewski play in concert. Many movements of the suite make stylistic reference to the types of intermediate pieces I studied with her.
